GTB Aug. 16, 2006 Special Meeting Members Present: Shawn Kraycs, Dennis Long, Monica Ashton, Ruth O’Mara, Terry Wright
Members Absent: None
Others Present: None.
Supervisor Wright called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the differences between General Law and Charter Townships.
Information prepared by the Michigan Townships Association concerning conversion to Charter Township status was previously distributed to board members.
Basic differences discussed:
Charter Twp would require four trustees elected at first general election following conversion to Charter Twp. Status.
Charter Twp provides increased boundary protection.
May retain Gen Law Taxing authority
Ability to enhance services
Supervisor will publish eligibility notification and an unbiased view point of pros & cons of the Charter vs Gen Law Twp. A public hearing will be scheduled for October 11, 2006 regular meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. to receive public input.
Meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m., all ayes.
